Design for a small phone screen

Reel covers and Story assets are seen at thumbnail size before anyone taps them. Set the type large enough to read in the grid, and keep it away from the edges where the interface draws its own controls and captions.

Safe areas before style

Stories and Reels overlay buttons and captions along the top and bottom of the frame. Place the animation in the middle band and it survives every placement, including the ones you cannot preview from a desktop upload.

Convert to video when required

Some Instagram placements accept video but not GIF. Export the GIF first and convert that file, rather than rebuilding the same animation in a second editor and ending up with two versions that drift apart.
