Use case / practical settings

Discord Typing GIF Maker

Create a custom typing-text GIF for Discord posts, announcements, or mockups. This makes a GIF file; it does not change Discord’s built-in live typing indicator.

Recommended starting point

Standalone GIF for posts and mockups · not the live typing indicator

  1. Keep the fixed prefix short, then put each update or welcome line on its own message line.
  2. Preview the loop at its final display size and keep the message readable without motion.
  3. Choose a solid background for a self-contained graphic or transparency for an overlay.

BUILD THIS WORKFLOW

Attach a finished GIF, not a live indicator

A Discord message can carry an uploaded GIF, but nothing here touches the animated dots Discord shows while someone is typing. Treat the export as a picture you attach, and keep the whole message inside one short loop so it reads as a single unit.

Match the channel theme

Channels run light or dark depending on the reader’s setting. A GIF built for one theme looks pasted on in the other, so preview both before posting, or export with a transparent background and let the channel supply the surface.

Let the motion finish early

If the loop restarts the instant the last letter lands, anyone who opens the channel mid-loop never sees the complete sentence. Add a hold at the end so the finished message sits still long enough to read.

A starter you can actually use

Make an attachable server announcement

The output is a regular GIF attachment, not a replacement for Discord’s live typing dots. Use invented example text in mockups and keep captions short enough to read in a moving chat.

Recommended editor settings

  • 800 × 300 canvas
  • Opaque background for contrast
  • 75 ms typing / 1,200 ms hold

From editor to the final destination

  1. Load the Discord starter, then replace SERVER and the messages with your own announcement.
  2. Generate the GIF and inspect the downloaded file at approximately the size of a chat message, not only in the full-width editor.
  3. Attach the GIF to a message and repeat dates or important details in regular message text, so the information remains accessible without animation.

Sample message to accompany the GIF
